Nugget Ring Size Chart: Sizes in MM, Inches, US, UK & EU
A nugget ring size chart converts your finger measurement into a ring size. Nugget rings use the same US, UK and EU sizes as other rings, but their chunky, freeform shape and uneven surface can make them fit tighter than a smooth band of the same size. Use the chart below to find your size, then read the fit tips for men’s and women’s nugget rings.
How Nugget Rings Are Sized
A nugget ring has a chunky, freeform look inspired by natural gold nuggets, with an irregular, hammered or textured surface rather than a smooth, even band. It is sized like any other ring: by the inside diameter or circumference of the band. The ISO 8653 standard defines ring size by inside circumference in millimetres; see the ring size overview for background.
What makes nugget rings different is the build. Many are wide, heavy and uneven, so a ring that matches your measurement on paper can still feel snug across the knuckle or across the width of the band. Because each piece is often hand finished, sizing can also vary slightly from one ring to the next.

Inner diameter is the width across the inside of the band. Inner circumference is the distance around it. Highlighted rows are common reference points.

Formulas used: circumference = π × diameter; inches = mm ÷ 25.4; EU size = inner circumference in mm, rounded. UK letters are matched to the nearest published inner diameter. Sizes vary slightly by brand.
Chunky Nugget Bands: Should You Size Up?
A broad, uneven band has more contact with the skin and can be harder to slide over the knuckle. If you are between sizes, or the nugget is wide, heavy or bulky, many people choose a quarter to a half size larger. Always check the seller’s size notes and return policy, because the shape and width of freeform rings differ from maker to maker.
| Style | Typical build | Fit tip |
|---|---|---|
| Slim or narrow nugget band | Light, with small raised nuggets | True size usually fits; check the knuckle |
| Wide or chunky nugget band | Broad, heavy, uneven surface | Consider a quarter to half size up if between sizes |
| Hand-finished or made-to-order | Each piece slightly different | Confirm the exact size with the maker |
Women’s Nugget Ring Sizes
Women’s nugget rings are most often worn on the ring finger, commonly between about US 5 and US 9, though many people fall outside that range. See also the women’s ring size chart.

Men’s Nugget Ring Sizes
Nugget rings are popular as men’s rings and are commonly bought in sizes from about US 8 to US 13. Chunky nugget bands feel tighter, so consider a quarter to a half size more if you are between sizes. See also the men’s ring size chart.

How to Measure Nugget Ring Size in MM and Inches
Millimetres are the most accurate unit. Convert to inches by dividing by 25.4. Our how to measure your ring size guide and the ring size calculator cover more methods.
Measure an Existing Ring
- Choose a ring that fits the same finger comfortably.
- Lay it flat and measure the inside width at its widest point, in mm.
- Find the nearest value in the “Inner diameter (mm)” column.
- Multiply the diameter by 3.1416 to check the circumference.
Measure Finger Circumference with a Paper Strip
- Cut a strip of paper about 10 mm wide and 150 mm long.
- Wrap it around the base of the finger you will wear the ring on and mark where it overlaps.
- Lay the strip flat and measure from the end to the mark in mm.
- Match the result to the “Inner circumference (mm)” column. Use string or a tape measure the same way.
How to Choose the Right Nugget Ring Size
- Pick the finger first. Measure the finger you will actually wear the ring on.
- Use millimetres. Compare your circumference with the chart and the seller’s size notes.
- Check the band width. Wide, chunky bands feel tighter; go up a quarter to a half size if between sizes.
- Check the knuckle. The bulky shape must pass over it and still sit snugly.
- Test the fit. It should turn with slight effort and not slip off when your hand is relaxed.
Can Nugget Rings Be Resized?
Often, but it depends on the ring, so ask a jeweller or the seller before you buy or alter one. The uneven texture, hammered finish or hand-carved detail of a nugget ring can be disturbed by cutting and rejoining the band, and very thick or heavy shanks can be harder to adjust. Some makers offer made-to-order sizing instead. Related guides: US ring size chart, UK ring size chart and ring size conversion chart.
Nugget Ring Size FAQs
What size is a nugget ring?
There is no single nugget ring size. Nugget rings are made in the same US, UK and EU sizes as other rings, so the size you need depends on your finger. Measure your finger in millimetres and match it to the chart on this page.
Do nugget rings run small or fit tight?
Often they feel tighter than a smooth band of the same size, because many nugget rings are wide, heavy and uneven, which gives more contact with the finger. If you are between sizes, many people go up a quarter to a half size.
What size nugget ring does a man usually wear?
Men’s nugget rings are commonly bought between about US 8 and US 13, but the right size depends on the finger and the width of the ring. Measure the finger you will wear it on rather than relying on a typical size.
Can a nugget ring be resized?
Often it can, but a jeweller has to check first. The uneven, hammered or textured surface can be disturbed by cutting and rejoining the band, and thick, heavy shanks can be harder to adjust. Some makers offer made-to-order sizing instead.
How do I measure my finger for a nugget ring?
Wrap a strip of paper around the base of your finger, mark the overlap and measure the length in millimetres. Match that circumference to the chart. Measure at the end of the day and repeat three times.
Should I size up for a wide, chunky nugget ring?
Often yes. A wide band covers more of the finger and feels tighter than a thin band of the same size. A quarter to a half size up is a common choice if you are between sizes, but check the seller’s size notes.
Will a nugget ring fit over my knuckle?
It needs to pass over the knuckle and still sit snugly at the base of the finger. If your knuckle is much larger than the base of your finger, choose a size that passes the knuckle and ask the seller about options such as sizing beads.
Are nugget ring sizes different from wedding ring sizes?
No. They use the same standard size scales. The difference is in the fit: the chunky, irregular shape of many nugget rings can make the same size feel tighter than a slim, smooth band.
